Vale Professor Rob Sutherland was one of the inaugural directors of The Kinghorn Cancer Centre. The Centre, officially opened by Prime Minister Julia Gillard on 28th August 2012, is the first centre of its kind in Australia, bringing together more than 250 researchers and clinicians to provide a holistic approach to patient care and cancer treatment. The Centre is a $128 million joint initiative of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and St Vincents Hospital and will provide a platform to undertake translational research and personalised patient care. For patients, this will provide them access to specialised treatment that has been targeted to their individual patient characteristics.

Rob’s vision for the centre was to generate significant advances in research which would translate to novel diagnostic and prevention therapies for the early detection and prevention of these diseases. The APCB NSW Coordinator, Ms Anne-Maree Haynes, has relocated to The Kinghorn Cancer Centre making this centre the new home of the NSW node of the APCB.…
