Researchers in Melbourne have developed a better way to test novel treatments for men with advanced prostate cancer. The research, lead by Professor Gail Risbridger at Monash University’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre involves using laboratory grown tumours derived from patients to test which drugs are most effective for prostate cancer. Research scientist Dr Mitchell Lawrence stated that “These lab-grown tumours have enabled us to rapidly compare different treatments and identify those that cause the most striking reduction in tumour growth”.
